With her striking blue eyes, her glowing skin, and a perfect pout, this brunette has a lot going for her. Palvin was discovered at the tender age of 13 in her home country of Hungary, and has been tearing up the international modelling scene ever since. It's not hard to find reasons to like this beauty - my personal favourite being that she stands at only 168cm; putting her well under the minimum 175cm standard for fashion models today. Let's think less dirty and unkept though, and more like you actually care, just a little please? (the hygiene part being of utmost importance for all of us public transit riders out there.) Thanks.

Long wavy hair, light on the make-up, torn jeans and denim shorts, crochet tops, beautiful ethnic patterned scarves, vintage jewellery, and lazy sandals - YES please. The only problem with this easy, sexy look, is that I may or may not have chopped all my hair off only months ago, and happen have a thing for caked on make-up... Damn. (Somebody may have to restrain me from putting extensions in.)

My one tip of advice for the hippie look is the following - it'll be summer, and skin is in. Skin is always in with me, but that's beside the point. Hippie inspired garments tend to be oversized, so if you're wearing an oversized top, keep your bottom half fitted, and vice-versa. No ponchos and genie pants. Got it? Good. Now come smoke a joint with me.

Front Runner

I used to live in Marpole when I first moved to Vancouver almost two years ago. I know what you're thinking, but it's not like I knew any better. I also used to intern at a fashion studio at Main Street and 6th Avenue. My weekly bus ride north on Main Street was when I first discovered this gem - from the outside only.

The exterior of Front & Company can't be missed by any semi fashion conscious person (and hipsters alike). The building has presence that fits perfectly among the other "hip" shops on the Soma (South Main) stretch of Vancouver, and the merchandising, oh the merchandising. Whoever it is they've got filling that position at Front & Company they are a pure genius. The visual displays in the front windows create a magnetic pull between human to store. Brilliant.

I finally ventured into the store about six months ago for the first time, and boy was I in awe. I was probably drooling actually. The store sells new items as well as consignment pieces and carries everything from bold rings, vintage shoes, umbrellas, coffee table books, hats, the list goes on and on. They offer selections for both men and women at very reasonable prices.

I recently dropped off some of my clothes that I don't wear anymore to see if they would take them for consignment. They're really fucking picky, which it's a great thing - it means you know when you're shopping there you won't be wasting your time looking at crap from stores like American Eagle and Stitches. I could really bash those two all day, everyday. They did scoop up three of my items - a silk floral printed Kensie top, a black studded Zara dress, and some wrap dress I paid way too much for two years ago and have never worn.

I'd highly advise anyone to stop in and take a gander, especially if you're gift shopping. Especially if you're gift shopping for me.

The only problem with me moving into the Main Street area in less that a week, is that this place will tease me, and the only thing that will suffer is my bank account. Making it wearable. Although I know we'd all love to wear it like the models on the runway and have our nipples visible to everyone, there is a feasible way to pull it off. It's called layers.

For night-life, I wouldn't say it would be horrible to wear a sheer top with a black bra, provided your bottom half is somewhat conservative. For daytime however, I would suggest wearing a nude coloured tank underneath, or any colour of your choosing for that matter. I would even say that one of those tube bras underneath a see-through top would be a pleasant pairing.

As for a sheer dress, now that's a challenge. I would normally advise to stay away from these, but there are a couple of simple ways to make it work. The first being a slip, or form fitting nude dress underneath. The second, and my favorite option, is to pick up a leotard from our friends at American Apparel to wear underneath. They even make a tie dye short version that could make for an interesting pairing under a see-through dress.

If all else fails, just wear it like they do on the runway.

Kidding.

Bootie-licious

Went to Forever 21 at Metrotown today to look for a dress for New Year's Eve... left without a dress, but did score these awesome boots for like $45. What a steal! Ugly Christmas Sweater Party!

Surprised? No, I'm not either.

I'm actually all in favour of this theme believe it or not because the advantages are endless:

1) It's cheap. You can score one of these hot items at your local Value Village for under $10, or from any kindergarten school teacher's closet for free - as opposed to $60 upwards for a cocktail dress.

2) If your good friend Norma happens to spill red wine on it, you probably won't give a shit.

3) Absolutely nobody will look hot, so no worrying about having to impress the opposite sex with your smashing figure.

Thank Jesus for giving us a reason to wear an ugly sweater.

U-G-L-Y

...You ain't got no footwear style, they're UGGly. They're ugly. They're ugly.

Okay, I'm sure I'll get bashed for this one. Sorry ahead of time to all of my dear friends who wear uggs, just because I don't like your choice in winter (or year round arguably) footwear doesn't mean I love you any less. Well, maybe a little less.

Firstly, whoever decided to commercialize the sales of these sad excuses for winter boots must be laughing all the way to the bank. Literally. I mean, they're made out of three pieces of lambskin plus a sole, and manage to retail for $150+...pretty hefty for something made in China.

Secondly, it really bugs me when the back part of the boot looks like it's become part of the sole because it's being stepped on by the person wearing them.

And lastly, did I mention they were $150+? Can't we get a little more creative with that kind of budget people? Really?

I do beg you, if you are going to wear these things on your feet this winter, avoid wearing a matching velour track suit if at all possible at the same time. I am aware this may be asking too much.

To all my friends: I love you. I still hate your uggs though.

Flood Warning

lookbook.nu

It's funny how trends change and evolve over time. Remember growing up? Becoming inches taller in astonishing amounts of time, and subsequently out-growing our back-to-school Sears corduroy pants before they even had the chance to become dirty in the playground.

"Mom, I need new pants! They're too short now!"

"(Jesus) But we just got those two months ago sweetie, I'm sure they're fine. (Fuck)."

"Nooooo, pleassssssse Mom!? All the other kids will make fun of me."

Ten years later, standing at a pretty average fix foot six and a half inches, I am no longer out growing my pants (at least length wise, fuck). Although sometimes I wish I did, just for the day.

lookbook.nu

I'm loving this whole, "hey, my pants are too short but I want them to be" trend. I even think it looks great with most footwear - doc marten's, platform heels, jazz shoes, and keds are among my favorites.

This look can be pulled off either super casually, with rolled up jeans (to the point where they just expose ankle and a bit of leg), paired with a sloppy t-shirt a la american apparel style, and any of the aforementioned footwear, or, it can be worn on a dressier level by taking a slightly too short satin tapered pant, a blouse, and a boyfriend blazer - heels of course are to be worn with this choice, although doc marten's could definitely spice it up a bit. Whatever you do, pretty please don't take pants that aren't tapered or at least straight cut and try wearing them too short. It just won't work, and you'll look like either Jasmine or Aladdin, take your pick.

So go on, wear your pants too short and be really fucking proud of it.

Denim on Denim. Wait, What?

Before the plaid shirt trend developed into the chambray shirt trend, before they started showing it in magazines, before I saw a trendy motherfucker on the street wearing it, I magically knew somehow that denim on denim was going to try to compete as a trend in the near future. And how is it fairing thus far? Well, that's hard to judge, but my consensus is this: Absolutely horribly, and terrifyingly well.

I usually have the balls to try anything. Especially a trend that I love. Yes, you heard me right - I fucking love denim on denim. If anything, I love it because it's funny, but unfortunately, the fact that it's funny is also why it's doing horribly. I want to wear it so badly, and will do so very soon...maybe even today. But, nobody "gets" it yet. So, what's the secret to pulling off this trend as well as the models in the pages of Nylon Magazine? Wearing unexpected pieces in different washes...and wearing them with killer confidence. Flared jeans and a denim jacket of the same wash will make you look disgusting, no exceptions. A chambray acid wash shirt, paired with dark wash denim short shorts or even skinny jeans should do the trick though.

To anybody who attempts this, I commend you.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://caleyjane.blogspot.com/2010/08/denim-on-denim-wait-what.html' title='Denim on Denim. Wrong.

Today Vancouver was absolutely stunning and the city’s beautiful humans were out and about in all of their sexy summer glory. I couldn’t think of a better time to stroll Commercial Drive with my camera. So I thought to myself – “Hey, why not go out and attempt to get some street style shots for my blog?” Good idea? Yes... in theory.

I have come to the conclusion that approaching people on the street and taking their photo for your shitty “fashion blog” takes a lot of balls. I mean, I do tend to drool a bit on my pillows from time to time, but this piece of fabric aesthetic pleasure really does it for me.

Nylon Magazine is one publication that I truly cherish - so when I saw a beautiful blonde model on one of their pages in their June 2010 issue wearing a long cotton tie-dyed skirt by Guess in not one but three different ways, I couldn't peel my eyes away from the page.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 227px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/TA53cLDAXwI/AAAAAAAAAM4/YUcOCgnqSV4/s320/IMG_0383.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480449122441912066" />
The skirt (which also debuts well as a dress) retails for $158 Canadian and is available at Guess stores, as well as online. No, I haven't picked up this piece. Why? Simply because I'm broke. Although, If I can't stop thinking about it, my visa may have to take a hit for me.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/TA53IeEjbbI/AAAAAAAAAMw/18TK7JZXitY/s320/IMG_0385.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480448783951293874" />
By far, my favorite look out of the three is the one on the far right. It's innovative, and stylist Julie Williams is definitely in the right field. I mean, who really thinks of wearing a tie-dye skirt partly tied up, in the way that tie-dye is traditionally rendered? It's conceptual and still looks hot.

Visa, would you die for me? I say depressing because shopping has now become a chore. You know, trying to desperately find ONE god damn thing I feel okay about my body in. I left with a flirty wrap dress from Forever 21 that was super flattering, but also made me look at least 5 years older than I am - Not always a bad thing I suppose, especially for a girl with an appetite for (somewhat) older men.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/TAyET2kHoII/AAAAAAAAAMc/42CAMdVf7n4/s320/just-jeans-harem-5995-cotton.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5479900323202441346" />
Back to the story - I get off the skytrain and I see this woman, and I think to myself "God, she should reeeally not be wearing those pants...". I say this not because the pants were ugly, or she was ugly, er..you know what I mean. I say this because they were truly unfuckingflattering as hell.

Then I realized that I own the same pants.

...And then I realized that I am the same size as her.

Finished Product

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 314px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/TAKw3maLYPI/AAAAAAAAAMU/w37yxz6Giwg/s320/IMG_0376.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477134566085583090" />
22"x28"
Acrylic on Canvas

Where Do Bad Folks Go When They Die?

They don't go to heaven where the angels fly.

I'm drinking. Think tapered, higher waisted, pleats, and "too short". Wow, that sounds like a fashion horror film synopsis...but not this time my friend. This time, it's a valid description of the current "it" pant.

Designers and stores tried to make this trend happen last Spring/Summer season, but it simply fell flat. So, what's so different this time around? Well, I'm not sure...besides maybe a change of heart and open minds.

This pant looks best done in earthy tones, or even pastels. I would advise keeping your top pairing simple - no pouffy sleeves, no pleating, etc. Looks that encase these trousers well are inspired by safari, military, tourist, and even ballerina looks. So...maybe it's not such an awful word afterall?

Daaaaayum, Dakota!

When did you get so fine, Miss Fanning?

Instant Label Maker

I spend a lot of time in the Mount Pleasant area of Vancouver - not because I live or work there, but because I like it. Good food, good shopping, good coffee, fashionable creative people, you get the picture.

Lately I can't help but notice a trend among the hipster girls that's taking over their heads. The top bun. You could be wearing sweat pants and a black tank top...and maybe even runners (shit, I know eh?) and as long as you were sporting one of these coils of hair on the top of your head - instant hipster.

It's not flattering, but hey, if your goal is to look weird to "fit in" - mission accomplished.

Art Under the Influence?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/S4FrsiibdlI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/3oUdZLoB_kY/s320/highonmed.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440748237769897554" />
I can’t decide if creating art while being a little fucked up is acceptable or a form of cheating. I like to think it’s both.

Sure, some may say that one shouldn’t have to depend on substance for creative thought. I fully agree. But sometimes, aren’t the best concepts, visually interesting pieces, innovations, and most expressive thoughts brought to life through an unstable emotional state? How is this so much different than say blazing....or even mistakenly taking a little bit too much cough syrup?

Personally, I can’t pass up on the opportunity. And being fucked up (whether naturally or not) combined with the wee hours of the morning lends itself to prime creation time.

Sea of Red

It was my first Christmas away from home. I opened the thoughtfully packed box of "stocking stuffers" that Dad and Charlene had sent out to my Vancouver basement apartment. One of these items? The Vancouver 2010 red mittens....Oh my.
I think I actually remember laughing and thinking there was no way in hell I would ever wear them.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/S37a3HoTaiI/AAAAAAAAAJI/0hRIhyZqX8c/s320/salimah+j.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440026040385890850" />

Then February came...and then...the Olympics started. Downtown became more and more flooded with proud Canadian citizens everyday. It totally pissed me off at first, and then I fell in love with it. I have definitely been experiencing that warm and fuzzy feeling of Canadian pride. It puts a smile on my reluctant face to see the sea of red walking down the streets, in the shopping centres, at the bars, and in the stands. So much so that I even bought a Canadian hockey team long sleeve t-shirt. Hmm, I actually wish there had been more Olympic apparel in that box of a stocking now.

Go Canada Go!

Image of Granville Street, Vancouver. Health - the four piece experimental noise-rock group out of LA exceeded my expectations last night at The Biltmore Cabaret in Vancouver; although I didn't have time to build expectations considering I only checked out their myspace hours before the show. I was relieved that I got more than my twenty-two dollars worth of entertainment for the evening.

I love to be able to say that what I heard live was more impressive than what I heard on myspace. Their recordings are pretty rad (yes, as in radical) regardless, but their show had me in awe. Maybe the alcohol had something to do with it, I'm not sure.

Drums absolutely drove the sound, and having been previously described as "borderline insane", I couldn't agree more. The single part of their performance that was subdued were the vocals. Had they not been, I think my ears may have exploded. Thank god they were mellow, because I'm sure nobody would want to clean up that mess.

The correlation between what I heard and what I saw was perfection. By the end of the show I think I may have even developed a bit of a crush on John, who was doing his thing center stage. I was feeling just a little stoked on the hug I got after the set.

On a final note, two things that make HEALTH even better: They work their own merch booth, and the drummer's initials are BJ...and they enforce it.

image from: http://myspace.com/healthnoise

Lighten Up, Buttercup.

Although Vancouver's fugly monochromatic "winter" may be here to stay a little while longer, I can't help but be excited as fuck for the spring and summer. Layers will become non-existent, and accessories minimal. Clean & simple seems like the direction that this look is headed toward (style.com describes the trend as "clean energy"..oh la la.); Not exactly pleasing to the ears of a girl who happens to be stuck somewhere between 1987 & 1994 with her fashion sense. Hats, tight pants, a rad shirt, tattoos, long hair...yadda yadda yadda. I arrived at 8:45 am, knowing that the sale was supposed to open it's doors at 10am sharp. I was thrilled when I saw that they had already opened the doors when I had got there, so I was inside within ten minutes! (I heard others who went later in the day weren't as lucky, having to wait as long as three hours to get inside!).

The selection was awesome, I actually picked up items that I had planned on buying at their retail locations. And the prices...oh the prices! Let's just say this: I walked away with a hoodie, two pairs of shiny leggings, AND a dress (the "hey, look at me, I can wear this fucker a million different ways dress) ALL for $46 + tax. Hoping to get "felt" up? ....Okay, maybe tht was a bit much, but hey..it's probably sort of true, right?

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 305px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SwrzueudPPI/AAAAAAAAAFs/t4ZcIQcevAw/s320/texture.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407402282459151602" />

After a recent visit to h&m, I finally clued in to what this winter season is going to be all about TEXTURE. First came the black sequined leggings, then came the faux fur coats, and now we've got a whole mixture of all sort of finishes, textures, and embellishments.

My current favorite ways to do this trend are 1)velvet (or faux velvet), and 2)dresses and tops with jewel-toned sequined designs. Texture is fun, so play with it! However, if you are self conscious of certains parts of your body, avoid putting these trends there. It's only going to bring more attention to them. Use these fabrics to accentuate your best features! (If you've got great legs, try sequined leggings or a velvet tulip skirt.) Tis the season!

luluLAB

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SsDoqAVIFpI/AAAAAAAAAFM/Fj4LUMcgRTw/s320/008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386560962675873426" />

Considering lululemon is a Vancouver based company, I was not surprised when their lululemon "lab" popped up at the Cambie and Broadway intersection.(Which is very strategically placed. There is a major Canada Line (new skytrain) station at that intersection, and a 99 b-line bus stop just happens to be directly infront.)

The lululemon lab is a retail and design space combined into one. Pretty much my dream. Complete with plenty of merchandise, idea boards, cutting tables, spools of brightly colour thread and rolls upon rolls of fabric. And behind where customers are allowed, is a fully functioning manufacturing area.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SsDo7Rqq29I/AAAAAAAAAFU/WV581zoDC00/s200/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386561259387411410" />

One of the best features about the lab, is that you can build your own custom groove pants. You choose the colours of the fabric and size you desire, and presto! ... they're ready for you in ONE WEEK or less.

Although I'm not the biggest lululemon fan out there, I found this place pretty damn mezmorizing. Try to stay away from doing them with browns; as it can make the whole look seem a bit summer-ish, and less harsh. I saw an ad on craigslist looking for "indie rockers" to be in their music video last weekend in Vancouver. Unfortunately, I couldn't go, but decided to check out their myspace anyway to have a listen (http://www.myspace.com/theracoonsmusic)
, and I haven't stopped listening since. Their sound could be described as Modest Mouse meets Bloc Party meets Arcade Fire...maybe. Whatever it is, it's good. I thought I was ready to be over the whole indie music scene..looks like these guys have just changed my mind.

Where Else?

Not in my changing room please and thank you!

This is just a note about the changing rooms in the Winners across Canada....locks please?
I don't think there's been a time when I've been in their fitting rooms and haven't either
a) been walked in on
b) heard someone else being walked in on

Come on people...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 90px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SjC46YMQG8I/AAAAAAAAAEk/d2jS2-p2wUU/s400/Winners_logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345976070754540482" />

My Life Update

I really should keep my ass in gear with this blog, and I'm sure some of you may be wondering what I'm up to lately since I haven't exactly been sharing!

My internship with JC Studio has been great, I am so happy to have the opportunity to really get an insider's view in the fashion industry. I'm also thankful for all of the advice about my future I have been given at the studio, it's so great to hear it from people who have been through it all. Unfortunately, I will be ending my internship in May so I can take 40 hours a week at my new job at Cupcakes....

The plan for schooling right now is to get my application in to Vancouver Community College's Fashion Arts Diploma Program (2 years), and start attending in the Fall. (I have already been accepted to 3 schools in Ontario, but this was before I decided to make the move to BC) I know this is what I have to do, and although I fear being in huge debt afterwards and not being able to make a living, it's the risk I feel I have to take.

AS FOR NOW, I have been putting some simple pieces on etsy.com for sale... Lagerfeld has employed his design genius to come up with a special collection just for Barbie and the infamous Ken.

The collection is on display now in Paris until March 15th.

Eye on Accessories

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 394px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SbXwwpCFpiI/AAAAAAAAADs/M1tH19KtM78/s400/POLYVORE.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311416053992367650" />

The focus on accessories this spring/summer season will be hard to miss. Designer Christophe Decarnin's use of a slightly disheveled sexy silhouette adds an intriguing element to the collection. The treatmented jeans were absolutely fabulous and not typical. He gave the same "type" of jean, but included many varieties. Overall I think Decarnin did a job well done. The collection seemed to evolve perfectly from his Fall 2008 RTW and he was right on key with trend forcasting.

i am in love in balmain new colection - by Maja Konestabo on Polyvore.com

Been a While Crocodile...

I figure my blog is about due for an update! Here's what I've been up to lately...
I leave this Saturday morning to board a plane bound for Vancouver and I couldn't be more excited! Yes, this means I am moving from the east coast to inhabit (what I hear is) beautiful, BC.

I will be interning part-time at the fashion label Jacqueline Conoir, named after the mother of the label's designer: RoseMerie Cuevas. She started the label known for its "tailored sophistication with an edge" in 1985, and has endured success to the present day. I cannot explain how thrilled I am to have such an opportunity! I'm also seeing some edgy black ones with studs and embellishment, great for a harder look.

up, up, and away! by caley-jane

What to wear with this towering shoe?...
It will look great with skinny jeans, or a straight leg pant or jean, try to stay away from wearing flared pants with this style.
My favorite though is definately wearing these shoes with a mini dress, or one-piece.
You could also wear a tunic and leggings, but i believe a mini dress perhaps with a bit of colour looks most fashion forward, young, and modern.

When i'm missing you by ☆♥JOJO♥Join my group♥☆

NYLON - Paper Inspiration

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 158px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SWByNCIWtTI/AAAAAAAAABs/f0Y9z2GFhfQ/s200/scarlett-johansson-nylon-magazine-june-july-cover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287351530768741682" />

I am desperately hoping that most of you who are reading my blog have already heard and have hopefully read Nylon Magazine. I attribute much of my inspiration to this magazine and have come to love it over the years.
They really focus on innovation and presenting a more underground fashion and culture vibe than such magazines as Elle or Vogue.

I don't really know how to describe it other than inspiring..but what more could you ask for?
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 152px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SWBuZXs-2pI/AAAAAAAAABc/ul-oFssJOaI/s200/AA.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287347344671431314" />

My only beef with Nylon is how unaccessible it is in small towns like one I currently and only temporarily "live" in. However, if you live in a city, you should have absolutely no problem getting your hands on this monthly jewel. I don't believe I have ever been to a real magazine shop that hasn't carried it. Trust me though, it is worth the effort.

Not only has Nylon been an amazing vice for my love of fashion, but I have discovered and loved many books, films, and bands/artists that they have featured. Their website is nothing short of spectacular as well..
http://www.nylonmag.com

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 160px; height: 120px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SWB4PRbhgsI/AAAAAAAAAB0/f3zb2xG1wO8/s200/6972190.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287358166305178306" />

This is probably my favorite video on the site, of course it's MK. But what's even greater is that I discovered new great music because of it..
(Their Cell - Girl in a Coma...background music)
http://www.nylonmag.com/?section=article&parid=714
Enjoy!

Trend Report - Navajo

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 186px; height: 281px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SVnEQhLqJsI/AAAAAAAAABM/Vi7bnbkbVgc/s400/fa064_01.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285471425760208578" />
The navajo print trend goes hand in hand with fringe. The Navajo Nation is the largest land area assigned primarily to a Native American jurisdiction within the United States. Their history and culture has inspired many garments and accessories for the current and upcoming seasons.

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky. by jade from california.

The belt featured in the above set has what we call a "navajo print". Look for prints done in bold colours, bead work and embellishment. This trend can be worn on any weight of fabric really. The vest pictured in the set below shows how you can wear great bead work. The layout also demonstrates how to incorporate fringe and hippie inspired clothing & accessories. Also, look for a print called "ikat", these can look very similar to "navajo" prints, and can add the same feeling to your overall look.

Navajo Summer for Nine West by Jessica Jelks

Trend Report - Fringe Benefits

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 158px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gAHT_2hCKkw/SVR9WYLq8mI/AAAAAAAAAA8/-rjcQUlrn60/s320/bad+fringe.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5283986086214431330" />

Fringe...I can't believe I am actually loving this trend!
Fringe has been on the scene again for the past couple seasons, however, it seems as though not many people have taken to it thus far. My senses are telling me though that this whole fringe thing will evolve by spring time.

Now, a couple of pointers for wearing fringe:

- If you aren't quite sure how to pull it off, just try it on a handbag or clutch. Leather or suede look most suiting and take minimal effort to wear.

- If you weren't too keen on the flapper era and all the styles that go along with it, stay away from layers and layers of fringe, especially thin string-like fringe. (Beware, there will be a lot of this style in stores, especially black mini dresses)

- Overall, natural tones and heavier fabrics will look more young and fresh than bolder stringy fabrics - fringe looks best done in a more youthful way.

- And finally, if you are trying out this trend, try to make as cohesive with your personal style instead of "transforming" to make it work - it won't.

Here is a "set" that I put together on polyvore to show the kind of fringe I'm talking about, if you would like to know where the items are from, just click on the layout, it will take you to polyvore; where everything is listed.

Fringe Benefits by caley-jane

Polyvore.com - A Creative Heaven

bows & whistles by caley-jane

I stumbled upon www.polyvore.com and fell in love immediately. It is going to be difficult to describe its entire wonderfulness, so I suggest you check it out for yourself: now.

The site is used to create "sets"; which are basically uber cool collages. There are thousands of images already on the site for anyone to use, or you can take any image you find and place it in your items. The site is used to create art layouts, interior design layouts, and my favorite of course; fashion layouts.

Not only, are you able to create these amazing "sets", but the items that compose each layout are listed to the side.....with where to buy them and prices! So not only is this an amazing creative outlet, but you can cure your shopping craving. It is honestly like creating your own custom magazine layout.

I hope you all realize that I expect you to actually try this out! Here are some of my "sets":

Find me on Polyvore

Happy Creating!

Welcome to my blog!

Thanks for checking out my first blog. I will be sure not to dissapoint.

I have created this basically to keep myself on the ball regarding fashion. As many of you know, I have left commerce and am in the process of applying to several fashion schools.

This will be a spot which will hopefully be as helpful to you as it will to me!
